Golden rules of telephonig
  • dials carefully (in th ecase of circularly dials, rather than the press-button ones, you will also have to wait for the dial to return.)
  • speak clearly and pleasantly.
  • answer the telephone quickly and say immediately who you are. Then go on to ask your caller how you can help him.
  • Keep paper and pencil near the telephone so that you can make notes and take messages.
  • If you are taking a telephone messages for someone who is not available make a clearly note of the caller's name and telephone number.
  • Be brief. Don't get side-tracked. If you are a sales person trying to fix an appointment with a customer, for example, don't describe your product on th etelephone - otherwise-otherwise you will have done away with the need for the appointment you are trying trying to arrange.
